Privacy Policy
We collect as little as we can. The free edition of RoutEngine sends nothing about you unless you agree to anonymous statistics. This page says exactly what we collect, and when.
1. Who is responsible
RoutEngine is responsible for your data. Contact: [email protected].
2. This website
This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising trackers. It loads nothing from other sites.
Our web host, and Cloudflare, which delivers the site, keep ordinary server logs (IP address, time and page requested) to keep the site secure and running.
3. When you buy
We collect what we need to sell and deliver a license:
- your name and email address
- billing details such as country and state, and your GSTIN if you give it
- your order details and the screenshot of your payment
- your PC's machine code, which you send us so we can issue a key for that PC
We tell you how to pay by email. We never ask for your card number or banking password. After you pay, you send us a screenshot of the payment. It may show your name and part of your account number or payment ID. We use it only to confirm the payment, and we keep it with your order.
4. When you write to us
We keep your emails and the details you include, so we can help you and keep a record of what we agreed.
5. The RoutEngine app
Your rules, settings and usage history stay on your PC. RoutEngine does not read, keep or send the content of your network traffic, or the names of the websites you visit.
Free edition. It sends nothing about you, except:
- an update check, about once a day. It is an ordinary web request, so we see your IP address and the app version
- anonymous usage statistics, only if you say yes (see below)
6. Optional usage statistics
If you agree, about once a day RoutEngine sends us:
- a random install ID made on your PC. It is not your name, account or machine code
- the app version, and whether you use the free or the Pro edition (for Pro, the ID of your license key)
- your Windows version
- how many apps have rules and how many network adapters you have, and whether routing is on
It never sends app names or paths, websites, the content or amount of your traffic, the IP addresses of your adapters, or your name or email. We use these numbers to count active devices and improve RoutEngine. We do not sell them and we do not store your IP address with them. You can turn them off at any time in Settings. To have the statistics for your install ID deleted, contact us with that ID, which Settings shows while statistics are on.
7. License checks (Pro)
A Pro license is verified online. This is a condition of the license. When Pro is in use, RoutEngine contacts us when it starts and about once a day, and sends:
- your license key. It holds the licensee's name and, if given, email address, the key's ID and the machine codes it is valid for
- this PC's machine code, a one-way code made from this PC's identifiers
- the app version and a checksum of the app's own program file
- a random value for that request
We use this to check that the key is valid for this PC and has not been revoked, to see how many PCs use a key, and to spot modified copies of the app. Pro needs a successful check at least once every 7 days, and turns on only after the first one, as the License Agreement explains.
8. Why we use your data
- to deliver, verify and support your license
- to answer your questions
- to prevent fraud and misuse
- to keep the accounting and tax records the law requires
- to improve RoutEngine, using only the anonymous statistics you agreed to
9. Who else sees it
Only the service providers that help us run the business: our email provider and our web and server host. They may use your data only to provide their service to us. We do not sell personal data. We share it with authorities only when the law requires it.
10. How long we keep it
Order and license records: as long as the law requires for accounting and tax, and while a license is in use. Support emails: as long as they are useful to help you. Usage statistics: until you ask us to delete them.
11. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
12. Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data of yours we hold and why
- correct or complete it
- erase it, when we no longer need it for the purposes above or the law
- stop using it where you gave your consent, by withdrawing that consent
To use any of these rights, write to [email protected]. We may ask you to confirm who you are first.
13. Children
RoutEngine is not meant for people under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has given us data, tell us and we will delete it.
14. Other countries
Some of our providers may process data outside India. We choose providers that protect it to a standard suited to this policy.
15. Changes
We may update this policy. We will change the date at the top when we do.
16. Grievance officer
If you have a complaint about how we handle your data, write to our grievance officer at [email protected]. We acknowledge complaints within 48 hours and resolve them within one month.
