RoutEngine End User License Agreement Copyright (c) 2026 RoutEngine. All rights reserved. Last updated: 22 October 2026 Please read this agreement before you install or use RoutEngine. It is a contract between you and RoutEngine ("the Licensor"). By installing, copying or using RoutEngine ("the Software") you agree to it. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Software. "You" means the person who installs the Software or, if you install it for an organization, that organization. 1. EDITIONS AND LICENSE 1.1 Free edition: personal use only. You may install and use the free edition without charge for personal, non-commercial use on your own PCs. It works without a license key and has the limits shown in the Software. 1.2 Commercial use needs a license. Every other use needs a Pro license for each PC the Software is used on. "Commercial use" means use in or for a business, company, government body, school or other organization, and any use to earn money or to do paid work, including freelance work and work from home for an employer or client. The Software does not stop you from using the free edition commercially, but doing so breaks this agreement. 1.3 Pro edition. A license key unlocks the Pro features on the PCs the key names. A key is tied to PCs by their machine codes, which the Software shows in Settings. It does not work on any other PC. (a) Single-PC license: the key names one PC. (b) Bulk license: the key names several PCs, and you may use the Pro edition on each of them, and not on more. A key that carries an end date stops unlocking Pro features after that date. A key may also be limited to a major version of the Software, such as 1.x: it then works with that version and earlier ones, and a later major version needs a new or upgraded license. To move a license to a different PC, contact the Licensor. 1.4 Grant. Subject to this agreement, the Licensor grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to install and use the Software: the free edition without a key, for the personal use that section 1.1 allows, and the Pro edition on the PCs named in your key, for personal or business use. 1.5 Backups. You may make one copy of the Software for backup or re-installation on a PC you are licensed to use it on. 2. WHAT YOU MAY NOT DO You may not, and may not let anyone else: (a) copy, sell, rent, lease, lend, sublicense or distribute the Software or a license key, except as section 1 allows; (b) publish, share or post a license key, or use a key on a PC it was not issued for; (c) remove, bypass, disable or tamper with the license check, the limits of the free edition, or any copyright or other notice in the Software; (d) reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software, or try to get its source code, except to the extent the law allows this despite this restriction; (e) modify the Software or make works based on it, except to the extent the law allows; (f) use the Software to break the law, or to get around rules on a network or device that you do not own or are not allowed to administer. Using the Software to combine or steer connections may be against the terms of your internet provider, mobile plan or network operator. You are responsible for following those terms. 3. OWNERSHIP The Software is licensed to you, not sold. The Licensor keeps all rights, title and interest in it, including all copyrights, trademarks (including the name RoutEngine) and the license key system. This agreement gives you no rights except those it states. 4. THIRD-PARTY COMPONENTS The Software includes components made by others, which are covered by their own licenses. They are listed in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md and, for the Wintun driver library, in wintun-LICENSE.txt. This agreement does not limit any rights you have under those licenses. 5. SYSTEM CHANGES AND ADMINISTRATOR RIGHTS The Software needs administrator rights. While routing is on it creates a virtual network adapter (using Wintun) and changes your PC's network routes, and it removes them when routing is turned off or the Software is quit. It can also add a scheduled task, if you ask it to, so that it starts when you sign in. Install it only on PCs you are allowed to make such changes to. 6. PRIVACY AND OPTIONAL STATISTICS 6.1 The free edition does not collect your personal data and needs no connection to the Licensor except as sections 6.2 and 7.2 describe. A Pro license is verified online, as section 6.3 describes. To tell whether an adapter has working internet access, the Software opens short connections to public servers (1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 on port 443). Your rules, settings and usage history are kept on your PC in your user folders. The Software routes the traffic of the applications you choose: that traffic goes to the same destinations it would go to without the Software. 6.2 Optional usage statistics. The installer asks you whether the Software may send anonymous usage statistics. It sends nothing until you agree, in the installer or by turning the statistics on in Settings, and you can change your answer at any time in Settings. If you agree, about once a day it sends to the Licensor's server: a random install ID made on your PC (it is not your name, account or machine code); the Software version; whether you use the free or the Pro edition, and for the Pro edition the ID of your license key; your operating system and its build number; how many apps have rules and how many network adapters you have; and whether routing is on. It never sends the names or paths of your apps, websites, the content or amount of your traffic, IP addresses of your adapters, or your name or e-mail address. The Licensor uses these statistics to count active devices and to improve the Software, does not sell them, and does not store your IP address with them. If you turn the statistics off, sending stops. To have the statistics for your install ID deleted, contact the Licensor with that ID, which Settings shows while statistics are on. 6.3 License verification (required for Pro). A Pro license is verified online. This is a condition of the Pro license, and the Software has no setting to turn it off. While a Pro license is in use the Software contacts the Licensor's server when it starts and about once a day, and sends: your license key (which holds the licensee's name and, if given, e-mail address, the key's ID and the machine codes it is valid for); this PC's machine code (a one-way code made from this PC's identifiers, which does not identify you personally); the Software version; the SHA-256 checksum of the Software's own program file; and a random value for that request. The Licensor uses this to check that the key is valid for this PC and has not been revoked, to see how many PCs use a key, and to detect copies of the Software that have been modified. If the Licensor's server says the license has been revoked, is not valid for this PC, or is being used with a modified copy of the Software, the Software returns to the free edition, and section 1.1 then applies. Pro turns on only after the first successful check. If the server cannot be reached later, Pro keeps working for up to 7 days after the last successful check; after that the Pro features stop until a check succeeds. You therefore need an internet connection at least once every 7 days. The Software also keeps the latest time it has seen, and if the PC's clock is set back it treats the license as unverified until the next successful check. The free edition sends none of this. 7. UPDATES AND SUPPORT 7.1 The Licensor may release updates and may change or remove features. An update is covered by this agreement unless it comes with its own terms. The Licensor has no duty to provide updates or support unless you have agreed that in writing. 7.2 Update checks. The Software checks a fixed address on the Licensor's website for a newer version when it starts and about once a day. The request holds nothing but the Software's version number in its user agent and the usual details of any web request, such as your IP address. When a newer version exists the Software downloads its installer, checks that it was signed by the Licensor and matches its published checksum, and, unless you turn automatic installation off in Settings, installs it by itself while routing is off. The Software then starts again. You can also install an update yourself from the notice in the window, and you can always install a version of your choice from routengine.net. 8. TERM AND ENDING This agreement lasts until it ends. You may end it at any time by uninstalling the Software and deleting your copies. It ends automatically if you break it. When it ends you must stop using the Software and delete your copies. Sections 2 to 4 and 9 to 11 continue after it ends. 9. NO WARRANTY The Software is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, the Licensor gives no warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free or compatible with your hardware, drivers, security software, VPN or network. Routing software can affect your connectivity: keep a way to switch it off and restore normal networking. 10. LIMIT OF LIABILITY As far as the law allows, the Licensor is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for loss of profit, data, business or goodwill, arising from the Software or this agreement, even if told it was possible. The Licensor's total liability for all claims is limited to the amount you paid for the Software in the twelve months before the claim, or zero if you used only the free edition. Nothing in this agreement limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. 11. GENERAL 11.1 Entire agreement. This is the whole agreement about the Software and replaces earlier understandings about it. Terms at the point of sale apply to your purchase. 11.2 If a part of this agreement cannot be enforced, the rest stays in force. 11.3 Not giving up a right is not a waiver of it. 11.4 You may not transfer this agreement or your rights under it. The Licensor may transfer it to a successor to the Software. 11.5 The Licensor may update this agreement for new versions of the Software. The terms that come with the version you install apply to it. 11.6 Governing law and courts: this agreement is governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute about it.
